The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has published its list of recommended vehicles for teenage drivers. A phone survey conducted in May of 2014 indicated that 83% of vehicles purchased for teenage divers were used or pre-owned. The IIHS has identified four main principles that help guide their decision in selecting the safest automobiles for teens: 1) young drivers should stay away from high horsepower; 2) Bigger, heavier vehicles are safer; 3) Electronic Stability Control is a must and; 4) Vehicles should have the best safety ratings possible.
If you are purchasing your teenage driver’s first automobile, make sure keep in mind not just safety ratings and crash test results, but also the type of vehicle and the model year as some safety features have only recently been introduced.
