In November 2014, the President signed into law the Traumatic Brain Injury Reauthorization Act which “provides appropriations for those programs through FY2019.”
The purpose of the bill was to help those suffering with traumatic brain injuries and their families obtain rehabilitation programs and long-term care and support. The legislation will help states develop and expand services, provide funding for prevention and public education from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and fund research by the National Institutes of Health.
A study from the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force revealed 2.5 million Americans are afflicted with traumatic brain injury while another 5.3 million live with long term disabilities that stem from brain injuries.
